Foundation

The St. Hilda’s Towers Foundation is the charitable fundraising arm of

St. Hilda’s Towers retirement home and seniors care facility in Toronto.

Working with the residents, family members, volunteers and community, the Foundation fundraises to support what resident rents and service fees cannot, such as the added comforts of home and community programming for the seniors who live and access services at St. Hilda's

More specifically, the Foundation fundraises to:

- Expand and improve the facilities and furnishings at St. Hilda’s

- Provide outreach programs for seniors living in isolation in the community

Our vision

To provide seniors with a safe, caring and vibrant community where they can live, engage and age with dignity and purpose.

Our mission

We are dedicated to provide seniors, living in the residents of St. Hilda’s and in the community, with access to a full continuum of care, services and community engagement.  We invest to helping seniors live with dignity through all the stages of aging from our Independent and Assisted Living, Respite Care to Active Seniors Day Program.

Your Gifts At Work

The Foundation fundraises to support what resident rents and fees cannot, which includes the expansion and upgrades of the facilities at St. Hilda’s and the added comforts of home for our residents.

Among other things, in 2007 we fundraised to support:

  • New Crosswalk furniture.  The Crosswalk is one of the busiest locations at St. Hilda’s as it hosts coffee socials, gaming activities, sing-a-longs, fitness programs and much more.  Now all residents can enjoy their activities in the new senior-friendly chairs that is eco-friendly, impervious to liquids and humidity, and designed to prevent falls.
  • An outreach program for isolated seniors in the community.  Identified as a definite need, , we launched the Active Seniors Day Program that invites seniors living within a 5 km radius to join our live-in residents in their daily recreational and social activities. The program is co-sponsored by St. Hilda’s and the Government of Canada.
  • A building fund to reconstruct the Vaughan Tower.  Built in the 1970s, St. Hilda’s was designed to accommodate the needs of the time.  With the changing demographics of our seniors, more space is needed to facilitate the high-level of service we provide residents. This fund is a long-term project that will see the reconstruction of the first and second floors of the Vaughan Tower, including the expansion for the medical clinic and dining hall.

Ethical Fundraising

The St. Hilda’s Towers Foundation adheres strictly to Imagine Canada’s Ethical Fundraising & Financial Accountability Code.

Imagine Canada, formerly the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy, introduced the Code in 1998 in response to growing public concerns about accountability among Canada’s charities.  The Code lays out standards for charitable organizations to manage and report their financial affairs responsibly. Participation is voluntary, allowing use of a trustmark which signals to donors a charity’s compliance with the Code’s fundraising and financial accountability standards.

The St. Hilda’s Towers Foundation adopted the Code in 2007.  We are committed to fundraising practices that respect donors’ right to truthful information and to privacy.  We are also committed to manage responsibly the funds that our donors entrust in us, and to report financial affairs accurately and completely.
